on that night--
when fervent prayers
met only heaven's silence,
and the shouts of soldiers
scattered us like chaff
when vile oaths were sworn
in the temple courts,
and torches blazed as
wise men became fools
on that night--
when the darkness pressed upon you,
how was it that you loved me
when I could not watch
with you an hour
