(Written 7-13-04)

I take my comfort,
As my boat is moored,
Not knowing the plans,
Of my Lord.

Then a storm came,
And my boat broke free;
I am tossed about,
Moving out to the sea.
I see the dock
Fall slowly away,
My heart starts to melt,
Like the waves of my sway.

Raging about me,
The storm is so dark.
I wish I could fly;
Take flight, like a lark.
Then I drop to the deck,
My face to the hull.
And, unknown to me,
The storm comes to a lull.

All strength has left me,
I see my own end.
I wait for the Lord,
With disaster to send.
I’ve nothing to live by,
Not from my hand.
Nothing’s there for me
By which to stand.

Then a light strikes my head,
I feel its welcome heat.
The sun has broke through,
While I’m replete.
Like grace from the heavens,
The sky has come clear.
I find my life,
On earth, is still here.
Away from the land,
I have His peace.

I’m in His love,
On the sea and released.
I find my grip
Loosed from the world.
His love has come,
My fear, from me, hurled.
The thing I had feared,
This tempest-tossed sea,
Is now the place
Where His joy comes to me.

Then a voice unassuming
Looms over my head.
My loins turn to shake,
I’m in His dread.

“I’ve sent you off,
And broke you free,
From the world to show
Your life is in Me.
All that is ‘bout you,
Hold with loose hand.
All that is here,
Will ne’er stand.
Yet, by My word,
I am your Lot.
My love remains,
While life becomes hot.

“Now free from this world,
You’re truly free.
No care is before you,
You’re free to see.
Stand with Me, child,
And watch Me move.
Grow in the knowledge
That I am true.”

Fear is the enemy
Of my perforated heart,
This, I now see,
True from the start;
I need not the world,
To hold me fast.
His promises reign,
To eternally last.

He is my Mooring,
My Anchor in life.
In Him, I stand,
Against all strife.
