Holding an idea she never believed
Caressing a life she never conceived
At home once a week
The other six days,
Running the streets

He was sitting on the couch when she came home
She froze when she noticed him in the soft light
Her behavior was of a woman she’d once condoned
She was sure he’d want her out of his sight

But instead he lowered the book in his hand
Gazed at her through the shadows of their home
Twirling the metal around his finger
He didn’t ask any question because he had always known
She swallowed the lump in her throat
Wishing he would say something instead of staring into her soul

He did nothing but shake his head at her insolence
It seemed as if she was never content
He’d supported her, loved her, assuring what he meant

Candy always looks good when all you eat are vegetables
She was getting three square meals a day
But wanted to know what fast food tasted like
Every time she’d walk by
She saw something too fine to deny

So she started cheating
Not only cheating on the one
She had promised herself to
But cheating herself out the life
He had made new

There she stood busted
The guilt of her transgressions
Weighing on her whimsical heart
Which never stabilized her internal pressures

When she broke down like a poorly engineered structure
He ran to her side and held her as though his memory had left him
His eyes had no guilt as she looked up into them
He reminded her that he blotted out her transgressions

And hopefully she had learned the multiple lessons
With a smile, she vowed to never again be an adulteress
