What if I don’t have the time to sit and watch their shows with them?

Tape them and watch later. You really need to know what your kids are watching.

What if they go and rent their own movies? Put a block on your account at the rental place. Most have it available to have not rated and ratings of NC-17 and R blocked to prevent renting.

What about when they go to friends’ houses? Know the parents, learn how involved they are in their child’s life. Explain how you feel and ask that they not contradict your rules. If they do, make sure to have a conversation with them on what you approve and disapprove of. Also, try to have them understand that they need to have friends with similar beliefs. Christians need to surround themselves with Christians.

Isn’t it garbage in, garbage out? In alot of cases, yes. If a person repeatedly sees violent acts they will become numb to it and think nothing wrong with it. Case in point The society in the U.S. Remember 20 years ago when Friday the 13th was big and 40 years ago when the original Psycho came out? They were awful. The violence was disgusting. Now if you look at those movies, there isn’t much in them that will scare you, because we have been desensitized to it.

In another point, if a child is constantly watching shows with cursing in them, they won’t realize that it is wrong. It doesn’t matter how much the parent says so. They may not use it, but it wouldn’t be offensive to them either.

So your saying that no matter how hard we try to raise godly children its gonna be impossible? Not at all, NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE WITH CHRIST, OUR LORD. Through prayer and Bible Study we can be assured that the Lord will lead us to correct parenting. Our children may not accept the Lord as their Savior until they are older, but we must lay down those foundation stones.
