Picture a snake as it slithers down the narrow path of a mountain. That’s what Lombard Street looks like from the top of the road.
My family and I recently drove down that street. It’s not a street you would generally travel on, unless you live there. It’s not only crooked, it’s extremely steep.
We rented go-carts for the day and drove around the beautiful bay area. We accidentally came upon the infamous street and went for it. Half way down the road we saw the sign that said, NO THRU TRAFFIC.However, we were already on our way down and there was no turning back.
Needless to say, we have all found ourselves on paths we shouldn’t have been on at one time or another. Perhaps we were just looking for a short cut that appeared to be less troublesome. Maybe it was a fork in the road that of course, we had to take!
Fortunately, if we find ourselves headed down the wrong path, with no u-turn available, we can change the way in which we continue to proceed.
In essence, we can quietly slither down a straight and narrow path or we can gallantly stride down Lombard Street and pray at every twist and turn that greets us.
The latter may seem risky and may even be a rough ride, but when we reach the end of the path and hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant,” we will know the manner in which we chose to get there was well worth the effort.
