In Romans 5:5 the Bibles says, “And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us”. (NIV) Hope without fulfillment is like a ship without a rudder. It may set sail for a short period of time, but if all a ship has is the ship itself it remains stagnant. Hope is that way. That which a person hopes for must not only be attractive, but must also provide a sense of fulfillment that is able to fill the soul. Hope in material things, although not necessary wrong, cannot provide that sense of fulfillment. That is why after a person has received what they have so laboriously hoped for they become discourage because they find that it cannot fill the vacuum of emptiness in their souls.
Why is it that the hope God has to offer cannot disappoint, or bring about a lack of fulfillment? It is because the hope God offers to you and I is God’s love poured out into His Son Jesus Christ. Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (NIV) The type of fulfillment that the heart craves for is unselfish, undying love. It is that type of love that gives us comfort that God has our best of interest.
Hope, when we look at it from God’s point of view, is not only attractive, but it also brings about fulfillment to the heart that yearns to know that they are greatly loved. Hope! What is there to hope for? Unless that hope is centered on God’s undying love for mankind. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
