One beautiful day at college, I suddenly discovered I had disturbing pains in my chest and at my back. They hurt real bad but I felt it was minor. Maybe cold got into my chest and that was the cause of the pain. With warmth, I was sure to be okay I thought to myself but I was wrong. With each new day, the pains increased. I began to lose my breath after walking short distances or climbed up and down the stairs and when I had to breathe in, I felt an excruciating pain in the left side of my chest and right side of my back. I got really worried.
I called home and complained about my discomfort. My family wanted me home immediately. The journey was tiring for my condition at that time so I arrived really weak. Seeing me would have placed fear in the heart of anyone but not my mother. She first of all prayed for me and gave me a word from God in Psalm 27.It was such an encouragement but I was still in pain.
The next point of call was the doctor. I was on my way to the hospital when I heard the Spirit of God tell me “whatever happens, just rejoice...” I felt bad that my body had grown so weak but I believed God more than my feelings. I didn’t know what the doctor was going to tell me but I held on to God’s word- no matter what, I was going to turn out right. I was going to survive. I was going to rejoice.
After some tests, the doctor said “You have to see a cardiologist; it looks like there’s something wrong with your heart. I’m not sure though, it could be your left lungs because they seem to be badly damaged. Do you smoke?”
“Has anyone in your family had a problem with their heart before?”
He was clearly perplexed.
The cardiologist looked at me after several checks and said, “your heart’s alright but your left lungs are in pretty bad shape.” She gave her prescription which helped but just for a few months. I had a relapse and this time it was really severe. I remember being rushed to the emergency ward all the while muttering “I can’t breathe”.
Apparently, my pretty bad left lungs had finally given way; their collapse had affected my heart in such a manner that the doctors weren’t sure about my survival. To make matters even worse, I had somehow amazingly lost so much blood. I was sick but not just that, I was dying. I found myself in the intensive care unit and doctors telling my family,“ All we can do is just hope and pray.”
Talk about rejoicing. I was flat out for the first three days. After a week, I was a shadow of myself. It was simply unbelievable. But like we all know, it’s when we lose all hope that He shows Himself mightily strong for us. He told me,“Hey Tesiri…, you’ve got to praise me inspite of this circumstance and feed on my word for your healing. You know why? I need you to be alive on earth as my point of contact to other people. You have to forgive anyone who’s ever hurt you and build your faith strong. Be happy girl, I need you to.”
I made up my mind amidst tears as I heard Him speak those words that I would rejoice, and that was the best thing I did for me. Next morning, as I lifted my weak body and voice to praise Him, I felt a power engulf me. My whole body quaked. This power moved from my head down my feet, and penetrated deep in every part of my body. I heard my bones crack and the power moved different parts of my body as it liked.
That was my healing. My supernatural healing and it happened just because I rejoiced.
So now, whenever I face trouble, no matter how hard it is, I rejoice in Him.
I have found out that my rejoicing always brings me victory and that’s how it is for every Christian.
