His journey begins in the refrigerator. He tries the leftover pizza first—not what he was looking for, in fact, he doesn’t remember when that pizza appeared in the refrigerator.
The young man then tries the apples, the grapes, and then to the cheese. Still he has found nothing that will fill this craving in his stomach. He walks to the pantry to examine what its shelves hold for his stomach.
The pantry holds more of what he is NOT looking for. Regardless, the young man begins the long process of trying to find that “perfect” food for him. He samples the chips, the cheese curls, the peanuts—still nothing. He even experiments with the box of garlic croutons and discovers that now along with having a craving he has incredibly bad breath! He’s starting to fill full now—something he definitely wasn’t trying to do—but that craving still exists.
The young man spends what seems to be an eternity pacing back and forth from the refrigerator to the pantry, hopelessly opening the door to each repeatedly. He sighs to signal his defeat. He’ll have to go to bed now with the craving. Maybe laying in bed will dissolve the craving that has begun to consume him.
As he reaches for the light switch, he glances once more toward the refrigerator, and on then he notices it! He forgot all about it! How could he have forgotten about THIS? He’s the one who put it on TOP of the refrigerator. He had saved it for this exact moment!
He chuckles as he reaches for his prize! That last piece of chocolate! This wasn’t just any piece of chocolate though. This was chocolate and peanut butter mixed together—made by his own wife and daughter. This chocolate was no bigger than a quarter, but he knew deep within him that this was exactly what he needed.
He pops the chocolate in his mouth and savors each moment. He smiles and heads for bed. He has found what he needed. As he enters the bedroom his wife looks at him and asks simply, “What did you find to eat?” He answers her with a warm smile on his face and in his voice, “Satisfaction!”
What about you? Are you searching for that “something” everywhere else, when you know that real satisfaction can only be found in Christ?
