Presently, Lemuel was meandering through his beautiful flower garden. He felt closer to God here than most anyplace else. The incomparable beauty often inspired him to burst into songs of praise. Once his soul felt refreshed, he headed back to the porch where he could gaze across the fields and make plans for the day.
Much of his lush garden was ready to harvest. A group of locals and new arrivals to the area were planning to get together later this afternoon, for a time of sharing and getting acquainted. Fresh vegetables roasted with garlic and herbs was on the menu. He could almost taste it as he thought about it! And there would be plenty to share with the livestock, as well.
Sitting down with a fresh cup of the best coffee ever to pass his lips, he gazed out over the fields. He listened to the giggles of a couple of young children splashing in the stream that ran through the pasture. Then his eyes were drawn to a bear that had come down from the distant hills and was mingling among the sheep and cattle. It appeared to be the same one that had come before to enrich his diet with the cattle’s grain. And what was that with the goats? “Looks like a wolf,” he mused. “I’ll make sure there is plenty of straw for him, too.”
Sounds somewhat idyllic, doesn’t it? When Jesus reigns upon the earth we will have peace and harmony at its finest! It is described in Scripture by the prophet Isaiah, “The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, … and a little child shall lead them. The cow and the bear shall graze … and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. (Isaiah 11:6 - 7 ESV)
Now is the time to prepare to be a part of the New Earth and Christ’s Kingdom. The Apostle Paul declared to the Romans, “…if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9 ESV). He tantalized the Corinthians with the prophet Isaiah’s forecasting of what is to come, “No eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him…”. (1 Corinthians 2:9 ESV)
That truly excites my heart. As we are bombarded daily with bad news, frightening natural disasters, and political uncertainties, lets put our trust in Jesus who will one day set all things right!
