As I began my Junior High school years, we were bombarded with newspaper headlines one day, proclaiming that the USSR had launched Sputnik—and the Space Race began in earnest. By the time I entered High School people were building bomb shelters, and our school conducted drills for what to do in case of attack.
When my children were in High School, the tragedy of Chernobyl took place. Now the world is being threatened with an even greater nuclear disaster. Nations have come and gone, but turmoil in this area of the world continues to strike fear in hearts around the world. It seems that the ‘good guys’ are never the ones seeking world dominion. Is the world destined to be ruled by a tyrant?
In spite of this scenario, there is a World Government in the making that should bring hope instead of fear. It should come as no surprise. It is prominently spoken of throughout Holy Scripture. From Genesis 3:15 through Revelation 22 Jesus Christ has been the promised World Leader. He secured His rightful place by setting aside His deity and becoming a man. Not only did He live, love, lead, and die, but He rose again to redeem anyone that places their trust in Him. We need only call upon His name, turn from willful sin, and follow Him.
During this governmental reign not only will people be at peace, but even the animals will coexist as we have never known. “The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them.” And the Prophet Isaiah continues with much more of what we can expect!
We are given signs to watch for—wars, rumors of wars, earthquakes in various places, famines, and pestilences to name a few. Are we nearing the end of history as we know it now? In Luke 21:28 Jesus admonishes his listeners, “When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” Whether the end of this Age is near, or if it is thousands of years away, I encourage you to put your hope and trust in Jesus Christ. He is “the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” Only He can bring peace to a troubled world!
