Good morning, Mr. Bee. Here for your usual collection?
Yes, I am. And I must say, you flowers really have it easy.
How do you figure that, Mr. Bee?
Well, just look at you. What do you do all day? You just stand there, looking absolutely gorgeous, with your petals turned upward to the sky. You drink in the rain, bask in the sun and have all the time in the world to just worship God.
Well, I guess that does about sum it up.
Yes, it does. And what do we bees do? I'm a forager bee, and so I buzz endlessly from flower to flower; soaking up minuscule globs of nectar from each flower. Then I buzz back to the hive, where a worker bee takes that honey, while I go back for more. The worker bees deposit the honey into honeycombs and cool it with their wings. No matter which job they have, bees are busy all day while flowers do nothing but rest.
Well, that doesn’t sound so terrible. After all, it’s what we each were created for.
Yes, I can see that. I can see how our bodies are designed precisely for the task of collecting and preparing honey. I can also see how flowers were perfectly made for producing that honey. But why couldn’t we bees have just a little time to rest - or you flowers be able to move around your gardens once in a while?
Gosh, I don’t know, Mr. Bee. I guess that’s just the way it is. After all, the Lord didn’t just ask you to buzz around all day without giving you the energy and endurance to do so. That honey you take can also nourish you - and the pollen you collect feeds baby bees. He also created your wings not only to cool honey but to help you travel quickly from flower to flower.
You’ve got a point, I guess.
And think of it this way: without a creature like a bee - one like you, who was made so perfectly for this busy task- all the honey we make would go to waste.
That’s true, too.
So, maybe when you bees do the task God created you for; and join with us as we do the task God create us for, those moments can become a joint act of worship.
I guess it can.
Well, then, be my guest, Mr. Bee. Let's worship together for this sweet little moment.
