and I fall for it every time.
All I can see is what others have
and how their lives are better than mine.
You make me green, the color of envy.
Whether it’s their fulfillment and happiness,
work or family,
or whether it’s the help and support
they receive so freely,
I’m reminded that I am unhappy and struggling.
I covet and resent,
and this is someone I don’t want to be.
I can’t wish well for others.
I hate to think that this is me.
I don’t want to be green anymore.
I determine to abstain from you
and give you no more.
You will not turn me into someone else.
I know I am kind at the core.
I refuse to listen to you any longer.
I will not allow you to lure me
into comparison again.
I boycott you, jealousy.
Those days have come to an end.
I choose to leave green behind.
I will fill my heart with other things,
leaving no room for you to lurk.
Better things will fill this space.
Your luring will no longer work.
I will use my energy for good.
I long for kindness and compassion,
good will and empathy to fill my heart.
I choose to be grateful for what I have.
I feel it’s a start.
I am turning to red, the color of warmth and love.
Resentment kills a fool, and envy slays the simple. Job 5:2
