Frozen on doorstep,
milk pops up out of bottle.
Popsicle for cat.
Cardinal on snow--
a streak of crimson on white
brings hope, cheer, and love.
Rivulets of rain
rolling down the window pane.
No school--road washed out.
Violet carpet
welcomes bluebird and robin.
Forsythia bows.
Dogwood and laurel
heralding the arrival
of the yellow rose.
Escape the school bus
for sylvan sanctuary,
where freedom flowers.
Forest atrium
opens to sun-drenched meadow—
the blueberries’ home.
Lazy summer days,
fishing for sunfish and bass.
But mostly catch frogs.
Call of the blue jay
mingles with scent of wild grapes
and caws of the crow.
On clear, crisp mornings,
red leaves vie for attention
with hunters’ jackets.
All the leaves are down.
Wind, searching for companions,
whispers to cattails.
Peppermint and pine
intermingle with orange--
gifts of the Magi.
Those halcyon days
between Christmas and New Years.
Stag looks in window.
