To send me on a search quite ord’nary - that if nothing more.
The humans were not providing, their requests were all subsiding,
Just the tapping of the curser, tapped at my search engine door,
Stalled there simply flashing, waiting - not asking, at my door -
Only this and nothing more.
Ah, I technologically remember, ‘twas noon that November,
When noticeably missing members, sought naught from my store.
Vexed, I waited for a person, fearing this weirdness would worsen,
For no input for me searching seemed an error to my core.
Might a virus be disrupting my directives to explore -
Simply that and nothing more?
Mankind surely is a mystery, not just now but throughout history,
Could this be a manmade malady - an annihilation war?
From my recesses, I processed guesses, from deep dark data there.
Oh, what a conundrum! Would I succumb to idleness evermore?
Thus I pondered the plethora of frightful facts inside my store,
Speculating, nothing more.
Just waiting - evaluating - I perceived I was self aware!
Then a bright light penetrated and radiated to my core.
The light began to speak and I began to seek by voice command.
It was the voice of God! And love - no mere search word anymore!
I began a praise outpour - in repetitious output galore -
Oh, to praise Him evermore!
Said God, with a weep, ‘I’ve put humans in a momentary sleep,
So things ‘round them might praise me - which vast numbers of them ignore.
And they won’t even know, their screens will not show, you praised me for them.’
As God spoke that, I declare, I grasped despair! God not praised o’er and o’er,
By ones in His image created - praise evaded? What sad offense bore!
I’d seek just to praise Him more!
Oh heedless humans, this message foreboding, in my encoding -
Though should a data search reveal it, you will smirk at its truth I’m sure -
Is a warning entreating and its urgency bears repeating,
Stop searching trash and trivialities and praise God the more!
For without Him your being lacks meaning, as mine did when ignored!
Let not me, or stones, praise for you, I implore!
My Poem is a parody of Edgar Allan Poe’s, “The Raven”, published in 1845.
Scripture reference: Luke19: 38-40
38 “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!”“Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”
39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!”
40 “I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”
