Ann stared at her friend in disbelief before slowly shaking her head. "And what is the point of this game?"
"Oh see, you're supposed to kill the pigs."
"Isn't that a line from Lord of the Flies or something?"
Rebecca shrugged, turning her attention back to the glowing screen. Ann still couldn't figure out the odd fascination of "Angry Birds" and all of its spin off games. It seemed to be a pointless game that wasted brain cells.
Ann watched in fascination as Rebecca turned the device this way and that before letting out a shout of triumph.
"YES! I just killed that beast!"
"Isn't that from Beauty and the Beast?"
Rebecca shook her head and clucked her tongue before answering, "Um, no. That would be 'kill the...uh...beast'. You're right. But that isn't the beast I was talking about; I was talking about these green beasts."
Ann shook her head, laughing before pointing to the odd angle that Rebecca held her iPad. "Does that actually help your game?"
"Um, sometimes? I was told that if you hold the pad just so as you sling the bird it tends to go further."
"And?"
"And what?"
"Does it?"
"Oh," Rebecca paused and scratched her head in thought. "I'm not really sure."
"So, why do you do it?"
"I don't know, I just do."
Ann shook her head and sighed again. She never could understand these games. After all, it was a bunch of hoopla over a sling shot and flying birds. She would never admit to her friend that she enjoyed playing the game on her laptop. That was between her and her browser. No one else would ever know as long as she had any say in it.
