"Wake up. You're talking in your sleep again," Ramses exclaimed.
"I was?"
"Yep. What was it this time?"
"I had this strange dream. And I remember every detail of it. I wander what it means?"
"You know, now that you mention it, I had a strange dream also. Oh well. Let's try to get back to sleep."
The next morning, a servant walked by the cell. "What's wrong with the two of you? You look exhausted," Joseph said.
"We both had strange dreams last night, and we couldn't fall back asleep."
"Tell me your dreams. God has given me the ability to interpret dreams."
"Well, ok," Anwar said. "I guess I'll go first. There was a vine in front of me. It had three branches, and it was budding before my eyes. The buds produced blossoms, and the clusters produced ripe grapes. The king's cup was in my hand, so I took the grapes, crushed them, and put the juice in the cup. Then I brought it to the king."
After praying, Joseph stood up to face Anwar. "Here is what your dream means. The three branches represent three days. In three days, you will be restored to your former position, and you will put the king's cup in his hand."
Anwar leaped in the air and did a cartwheel. "Wow. That's amazing. Is there anything I can do for you, if this happens as you say?"
"Well, if you would, please remember me and mention me to the king."
"How could I forget you? Of course I'll tell the king about you."
"Man. I hope my dream turns out as good as yours," Ramses exclaimed.
"Go ahead. Let's find out,"
"Ok. Well, I saw three baskets of white bread on my head that I was delivering to the king. The birds came and at the bread out of the baskets."
Joseph again prayed for wisdom. "Here is what your dream means. The three baskets reprsent three days..."
"Oh, oh, let me guess," Ramses said, as he jumped up and down and clapped his hands. "In three days, I'll be restored to my former position, and deliver bread to the king, right?'
"Wrong. In three days, the king will lift up your head, hang you on a tree, and the birds will eat your flesh."
"Um..." Ramses stuttered, "Has your God ever been wrong?"
"Nope."
"Thanks for the reassurance," Ramses lamented.
In three days, it happened just as Joseph had said. After Anwar was restored to his position, he forgot his promise to Joseph. After two years, the king had a dream, and he was greatly distressed.
"Can't anyone tell me about my dream?" he asked.
"You know, I just remembered this guy who was the servant of the bodyguard. He interpreted my dream and the chief baker's dream correctly."
"Well, what are you waiting for? Bring him up here."
After Joseph was brought up, the king told him about his dream.
"I saw seven cow, sleek and fat, and full of good meat. Then, behind them came seven skinny, ugly cows. Then... You're not going to believe this."
"Try me," Joseph said.
"Well, the skinny cows ate the fat cows. I was just dumbfounded. And the skinny cows were just as ugly as before. You'd think they would have looked better, but they didn't. Then, I woke up confused.
"After I feel asleep again, I had another dream. Seven plump and good. And seven thin and scorched ears came up. And you aren't going to believe this... well, maybe you will, but I couldn't. Those seven thin ears were cannibals in disguise! They swallowed up the fat ears, and didn't look any different."
“God has revealed your dream to me, and told you what you are to do. The seven fat cows and the seven plump ear of corn represent seven years of abundance. There will be excess, like this land has never know. But then, there will be seven years of famine, to the point that the abundance will be forgotten. You are to find a man who is discerning and wise, and put him in charge. Now, I have just one question for you. Who could that person be?"
"Hmmm... I don't know," the King said, giving Joseph a knowing wink.
