When God brings water to the earth, He brings refreshment and replenishment.
He slakes the thirst of the land
He rehydrates the growing plants
In every season, He sends the rain; according to His plan.
Only He knows how much to send; or how often to send it.
When a deluge comes, He is showing the abundance of His provision for us.
When freezing winds paralyzes the rain, and it becomes sleet or snow, His refreshment is waiting within those icy crystals.
When cooling drops pierce the sullen heat of summer,
He reminds us of His sovereignty over the most heated of conflicts.
On those days God sends only a peppering of moisture:
A fine spray mist; winking softly at the glowering dry surfaces of the planet.
Only He knows why He sends exactly this much
Only He sees the earth’s need for just that swift sip of His sustenance.
Just as He waters the earth, He also sends the Living Water of His Presence.
Through His Spirit, He replenishes our lives.
He knows when to flood us with grace and joy; when to drench our souls’ drought.
He quenches our inner thirst, by sending a storm of His might. His Holy thunder can uproot our willfulness.
He sends a brief, startling fall of cooling water to quench our anger and frustration.
And on those days when His Presence is only minutely perceived, we can trust this is exactly the portion of the Water of Life He knows we truly need
Whether He sends the formidable flood - or merely the diminutive drizzle - we, therefore, trust Him to provide exactly as much as we will need.
