It was already dark and the fire was dying down when I heard a whirring sound. At first I thought it might be an insect, but when I glanced up to see what it could be, I saw a light in the sky that seemed to be headed my direction. As I stared to see what it could possibly be, I noticed it was round, saucer-shaped, and descending in a spiraling manner. It landed not far from where I was sitting. Something-or someone-stepped out and started coming towards me. I couldn’t see clearly because the immediate area was engulfed in a bright light.
I was obviously almost paralyzed by fear, but when the creature spoke, I could understand it. He said I could call him Trenton, and he was from a distant planet. Others from his planet had carried out missions to earth at various times, and they had some questions. As the participants in these missions compared notes they noticed that earthlings were not all equal. Some were engaged in meaningful activities, and seemed to be pleasant, but there were also many that lived in degradation and did not seem to have purpose.
I took a few minutes to collect my thoughts, and then began sharing with him my understanding of God, Creation, satan, the Fall, and God’s promise of a Savior. He seemed to be listening with great attention. A sense of peace had settled over me, so I went on to tell him about Jesus, His ministry, death, and glorious resurrection.
I finally shared that earthlings have a choice. We can accept Jesus’ sacrifice, repent of our sin, and gain eternal life. Or we can reject Jesus, live for ourself, but face dire consequences.
He seemed surprised and asked, “Choice? You can choose whether to love the Creator or not?”
I told him, “Yes, we can.”
Then he shook his head and responded almost incredulously, “Why would anyone choose to not love the Creator?”
I agreed that I also struggle with that very question, but satan has blinded many people to the truth.
Trenton seemed to be taking copious notes on some kind of a device. When he finished, I wanted to ask him some questions about his home and inhabitants, but he quickly gave a nod of his head and said, “Thanks. Must go.” With the bright light still blinding me, I really can’t say much about what he looked like. I’m not even sure if he was alone or not.
I watched as the saucer-like vehicle began spinning again, and lifted up into the air. I gazed until it was out of sight. I have not told anyone about this encounter because I’m not sure if I dreamed it, or if it really happened, or what. But since then I am haunted every day by Trenton’s question, “Why would anyone choose to not love the Creator?”
Whether this actually happened or not, I have determined, with God’s help, to increase my efforts to share the message of God’s love. I pray people will make the decision to know Him better. For if they truly know Him, why would they choose to not love Him?
