She perches on her bed, sorting through mountains of beads - choosing which beads she will use, and what beauties she will part with. Her greying hair in its lopsided topknot, she appears winsomely younger than her seventy-seven years.
She is my best friend, my beloved sister - and, as far as I can locate, my only living family member. We are very close, sharing our love for Jesus as our stronghold. Reading Scripture together every evening after watching Carol Burnett, and just before Perry Mason, we have sweet fellowship in two to three hungry chapters, eagerly absorbed. We just completed the Old Testament Malachi last night. Yum. Gospel tonight with Matthew.
Oops. Just peeked in to espy her wrapped head to toe in her blanket, snuggling for those few precious moments before Bible study with our love-minded friends.
Sometimes her exuberance overwhelms. I gifted a friend with a character doll yesterday, and she was immediately, passionately offering a precious item she had just received from me - to the same friend. I had to remind her that gifting has its timing, and there are reasons for the gifting. She doesn't have to give because I gave. I gave my friend the doll because I had found a larger version of it, and did not need two of the same item,
She is a beautiful woman with the aching heart of a child who goes to the meadow and picks Queen Anne's Lace to generously "heart" every soul she touches. She is easily wounded when some unthinking, ungrateful crank rebuffs her attentions. She is the first to respond to every need, making sure that everyone "feels at home" with her. She shares chocolate - now that is a generous spirit.
Dear Father - please teach me to empty myself of me, and fill me with Your generous, unbelievable Heart that sent Jesus to die for my sins. Thank You for loving me in spite of me... Thank you for a sweet sis who demonstrates love to everyone, everywhere.
