I thought that I would not forget,
And yet, some faces are so dim,
I hardly can remember them.
Perhaps it’s that I’m older now
That they have slipped away somehow,
Or our acquaintance was so brief,
Time stole their faces like a thief.
The ones I don’t wish to recall
Or anything they did at all
Are those who tried to lead astray,
My Christian faith thus to betray.
Or others, acting cruelly
With hatred in their hearts for me.
Their enmity was hard to bear.
Their actions caused me to despair.
But there are many I see clearly,
Of course, the ones that I loved dearly,
And some with such a strong impression,
That passing years refused to lessen.
I choose to keep close to my heart
The ones who played the greatest part
In helping me live happily
And be the best that I could be.
