Fact Satan sore contested,
Inferring God was to be blamed—
Had hedged him all about he claimed—
He’d fail if he were tested.
And so Job’s testing time commenced
As Satan worked afflictions;
Death and destruction all dispensed,
Even nature worked against—
Job stuck to his convictions.
Satan altering his course
New strategy invented,
Used Job’s friends to reinforce
Hidden sin the certain source
Of why he was tormented.
But Job maintained his innocence
When faced with accusation;
Through opposition most intense
Integrity was his defence
Despite his near frustration.
Elihu then announced his view—
The most opinionated,
Yet advocated nothing new
Accusing Job unfairly too—
A false flag orchestrated.
Why is suffering man’s plight?
Why do troubles touch unjustly?
Job’s advisors shed no light
They’re short on wisdom and insight,
But argue most robustly.
God speaking from the whirlwind’s midst
Some eighty questions posing
Concerning how all things exist
Without the need of man’s assist—
Truths known by God’s disclosing.
So many questions men propose
With blind discrimination,
They only hear as they suppose
And never seek the One Who knows—
His perfect explanation.
