Or travel across the sky?
Why does the moon hide in the day,
Or join the stars at night?
Two bright spheres guide the hours,
Keeping our sense of time.
One ablaze, the other reflection,
How did You make it so?
Why do trees lose their leaves,
As weather becomes cold?
Why do they gain brilliant colors,
As seasons pass us by?
Giant plants towering above,
Providing shade and rest.
Some turn red, and others brown,
Was it variety You loved?
Why do butterflies make us smile,
While wasps make us cringe?
Why do we laugh at ladybugs,
But step on all the ants?
Insects all have a part in life,
Purposes not always seen.
Some so tiny they’re overlooked,
Did You have to make them sting?
Why does music evoke emotions,
Smiles, angst, joy or tears?
Why do melodies tug the heart,
Or even make us scream?
Limited notes, yet endless songs,
Soothe our wearied souls.
Triumphant sounds take us far away,
Do You get goosebumps too?
Why do we hurt when we are sad,
Or yell at those who care?
Why is it sometimes hard to love,
When anger visits us?
Hearts so strong, and yet so fragile,
They mend and break so easily.
Worldly thoughts confuse the soul,
Can You hear our cries?
Why must we suffer in this world,
Begging for relief?
Why is life so wearisome,
Instead of free of pain?
Earth, it spins no matter what,
Whether we’re joyous or in grief.
Bodies fail and minds grow weak,
How do You watch us fall?
Why must we wait, Sovereign, Lord,
For Your glorious return?
Why not today, King of Kings,
Can You take us home?
We’ve waited years upon countless years,
Looking towards the sun.
Your promise remains in our hearts,
We know You will fulfill.
On that day, that beautiful day,
We will see Your face.
Oh, Holy One, we exalt Your name,
Excited beyond words.
And when we leave this world behind,
We’ll know about the sun.
We’ll know about the trees and bugs,
And songs that make us sing.
We’ll know why we suffered so,
And know what true love is.
We’ll know why we had to wait,
And know You heard our cries.
The world is turning, and seasons pass,
So many vast unknowns.
You hold the key to all great mysteries,
For You are God, and God alone.
