As she walked along the stony path, daylight filtered through fir trees, creating a perfect photo-op for her growing galley of pictures.
Taking pictures was now a huge part of Gemma, and to think it all started due to boredom. The doctor informed Gemma she should begin to walk at least 30 minutes a day. She even advised her to break it up into 15 minute increments if need be. The important thing was to keep moving as heart disease was rampant in her family genes. And, so…while indulging the doctor’s “orders” she decided to make it interesting and began taking pictures during her daily constitutionals.
Today however, Gemma decided to turn down another path to bring variety into her routine. She turned right and followed a narrow path, just wide enough for her two feet to walk upon. The trees were enormous and seemed to swallow the light.
In fact, the further she walked, the darker it got. She was going to turn back and stopped when a flickering light appeared ever so briefly. Gemma didn’t know where it came from. Or if her eyes were playing tricks on her, after all, she was prone to migraines and a flickering light was usually what preceded a nasty attack.
She spoke aloud, “Oh no, not another migraine. I have too many things to do today; I don’t have time for a debilitating migraine…”
Another flashing light…but, this time it was longer and definitely not because of an aura that precedes the migraine. The flash of light was coming from what appeared to be the darkest part of the narrow road straight ahead.
She paused albeit briefly, before picking up pace and heading toward it. It seemed to flicker more and more as she fast approached it.
Gemma wondered, “What could this mean? Is this my imagination? Or is my brain lacking nutrients due to not eating breakfast and my long fast overnight?”
When she reached the end of the road she found a tiny wooden cabin that she probably would have missed if the light didn’t guide her to it.
Trees enveloped the entire small home, and thorny vines were twisted on the windows. If Gemma didn’t know better, she’d have thought it was barbed wire fencing.
The light flashed, brighter than before, as she walked slowly to the doorway. Something was telling her to knock…to call out, and so she did. “Hello? Is anyone there? Hello?”
The light flickered ever so fast, as Gemma pushed the door open, she called out again. “Hello? Is anyone here?”
The brilliant light filled the cabin as she stared in shock. It was like something out of a horror movie. Chained to a bed was a young naked woman. Her mouth was taped shut.
Gemma saw the wide-bulging eyes, “Are you okay?”
The young girl shook her head quickly. Gemma took the tape off her mouth, and pulled out the rag stuffed in her mouth. In a raspy voice she whispered, “Please help me! They'll be coming back soon. We have to get out…now!”
Gemma didn’t know how to unchain her as there were no visible keys around. Instead, she saw an axe by the fireplace and told the young lady, “I am going to break this piece of furniture you’re chained to, when I do…can you stand and run out with me?”
“Yes…”
Gemma was amazed how easily she was able to accomplish what she’d set out to do. Within seconds the young lady was free. She wanted to first get out of there, and ask questions later. “Okay, are you ready? Let’s go.”
They managed to get out just as a car was pulling down the graveled path. “That’s them! They’re back!”
“Dear Lord, help us…please.” Gemma looked to the heavens.
Three men stepped out of the car as Gemma and the naked woman ran faster than either could have on their own, God clearly was doing all the work.
They made it back to Gemma’s house safely where she dialed 911.
“I was a sex slave!”
“It’s over now. Thanks to your brilliant clue of shining that light.”
With quivering lips she answered, “But I didn’t shine a light …”
