I rushed with family
For sumptuous, delicious feasts,
Our Mama’s specialty.
We’d find the table, platter filled,
With steam above it rising.
There’s no array I find today
That’s quite as appetizing.
The chicken, fried a golden crisp,
We couldn’t wait to taste,
Then savor every crunchy bite
With none to go to waste.
The biscuits, light as springtime air,
With Mama’s homemade jellies,
Were comfort to our minds’ distress,
As well as hungry bellies.
Potatoes, whipped to fluffy peaks,
A favorite selection,
With corn and green beans, garden fresh,
Were seasoned to perfection.
And last, she’d bring out the dessert,
Her cakes and pies, oh my!
No bakeries could dare compare,
No matter how they try.
I revel in the memories
Of family together,
Where richer than the food was love,
Enough to last forever.
I’m looking to the future now,
When we again will dine
At marriage supper of the Lamb
In heaven’s suppertime.
