At first glance, James and Jennifer could tell that their “pilot” was one of the Custodian Saints now ruling the planet.
That gave them more confidence.
‘Dr Lensington, I presume?’
‘Yes, James, but you can call me Doc. Hi Jennifer! Are you ready for the unexpected?’
Jennifer nodded shyly. She was only a youthful 120, so still a little in awe of the King’s magnificent People. The doctor smiled reassuringly.
James had been studying the sciences for the last two centuries, so he looked rather doubtfully at their little “spaceship” – a large transparent bubble with three comfortable seats – no controls or machinery in sight.
‘Er… Doc, where’s the thrusts etcetera?’
‘Voice controls and spirit-powered.’ Doc grinned. ‘I should remind you that this is a spirit-realm journey as well as a physical tour. Conventional physics alone is inadequate. But let’s go.’
Feeling around for the “handle”, the children’s hands went through the bubble surface! They jumped through and found the seats seemed to float comfortably on nothing.
‘Wow!’ said James.
Doc raised his voice in a power-filled command.
‘To Eternity and beyond!’
Next thing they knew, their craft was floating through a glimmering gateway.
Behind them was the cold blackness of outer space, before them was a land of such indescribable beauty, it brought tears to Jennifer’s eyes.
But they had really no time to enjoy it, for they found themselves approaching another gate, going back into dark space again.
They were close to a strange planet with a silvery sun hovering off to the right. So many colours on the planet’s surface, glinting in the light!
‘Our astronomers of old were sure it bore life,’ explained Doc regretfully. ‘I believed them then, as I mistakenly believed a lot of things. But it’s still beautiful nonetheless.’
Flying down for a closer look, they passed great column-like mountains of varied crystals, glistening and fading. These were awash with golden liquid rivers, waterfalls, lakes.
‘Amazing!’ whispered Jennifer.
‘It’s liquid Oxygen, James,’ said Doc.
‘Then how come we’re not freezing here?’
‘Efficient heating system,’ doc replied with a laugh. ‘But don’t put your hand beyond the bubble or you’ll lose it! And as I said, we can’t do this with conventional physics. Let’s have a look around the other end of this galaxy. Jennifer, you know the command code now. Can you do the honours?’
‘To Eternity and beyond!’ Jennifer was really enjoying herself now.
Back through the lovely gateway, they now approached a fiery red and gold planet with contrasting earthen-hued rocks and island-volcanoes floating in a glowing yellow sea. They dived down and floated around in the lava-sea, being showered by molten rock.
‘Efficient air-conditioning here, right Doc?’
‘Quite right! Now it’s your turn, James. Let’s see the galaxy’s centre.’
They flew around a few Black Holes, dived through some Pulsars and surfed along the magical Magellan Clouds.
‘This is so amazing!’ Jennifer squealed delightedly. ‘But are there are no people out here? You know.. friendly aliens?’
Doc became serious.
‘Well, I can show you aliens alright. I can also show you real people. You will need to show some courage now, but you will be safe because you call upon the King’s Name.’
He took a deep breath and cried ‘To Eternity and to Battle!’
Soon they were hovering above an asteroid system.
It was in turmoil, some spinning erratically. There were eerie flashes and horrible screams that they could even hear within their craft.
On each larger rock, stood a man or woman – all unmistakably Ruling Saints – appearing to issue commands to an unseen army, pointing here and there. Their hair and garments shone blindingly as though in wrath.
‘What’s happening, Doc?’
Doc bowed his head and prayed. ‘Open their eyes, Lord.’
Immediately, the whole of space lit up with shining winged warriors darting here and there. They were in pursuit of the ugliest creatures the children had ever seen.
‘These are your “friendly aliens”,’ explained Doc grimly. ‘They were expelled from our atmosphere when the King returned, and their own king is in chains. They have been fleeing our forces ever since.’
‘So… they’re responsible for the horrible history of the Earth before the Restoration?’
‘No! We were! We invited them in when we surrendered our authority given at the beginning. But then King Jesus came and died to win it back for us. Then He defeated Death!’
‘Wow!’ cried Jennifer. ‘Why did He do that – after all we did??’
‘His Amazing Grace!’
