“You’re part of this group and yet you do nothing at all?”
Yet, what was I to do? Might I have been able to do anything to have changed the natural progression of which was to happen? Could I have stopped it, or have done something to allay the cries of those that surrounded me?
It was a slow process, and yet as the population flourished. The distinct aroma of survival of the fittest was apparent throughout the congested cluster.
“Why don’t you care? Can’t you see we’re all affected by this?”
I guess I wanted to be alone. I really desired to hear the sounds of silence. I couldn’t stand the clutter, and the continuous bitterness that seemed to drip day after day in the colony.
“Why don’t you do something? We’ve all tried, and yet you do nothing at all to try to help…why?”
Then one day…it happened. The complaints and the tedious monotony were silenced. I was in the center of the cluster, and watched the others being plucked from the vine. And, as they were pulled from the vine…they cried.
“You could have helped, but you chose to look the other way…it’s on you now.”
Silence and peace surround me now; I’m the biggest grape on the vine, in fact the only one to have survived the tumultuous times in this particular colony. There are others on the stem coming to life, drinking of the vine; soon…they’ll be growing. The vine is calling to them and nourishing them.
I still wonder if I could have done something for those that were pulled away from the vine.
I will never forget the bunch that were plucked away, who ultimately, suffered the wrath of the one who seeks to destroy…
