My senses are numb, drained of all pleasure
I don't want to eat, drink or see anyone
And yet, I have no choice;
Three needy children await me downstairs
I push through the colorless day
tending to the chores that can't wait
putting off the ones that can
avoiding all human contact
All I want is to go back to bed
But then, You show up
In a child's laugh
In a brilliant flower
In a loving text from a friend.
You are here in the midst
You see my desolation, my despair,
my fear that I'm not good enough.
You pull me close, whisper in my ear, “I love you”
And show me in a hundred different ways
Suddenly, food tastes good
A joke makes me laugh
A snow-capped mountain steals my breath
Music lifts my spirit
And my heart beats again
