Number of actors: 4 to 8. If using less than 8, some or all will take on more than one speaker role. All roles could be male or female. A few of them, speakers 2-4 in particular, could be played by children or teens.
This can either be done as a live skit or a video montage. As a live skit, costuming should either be Biblical clothing or very simple. A solid white shirt with black pants, or something similar. Each person walks to center stage, delivers the line, then walks off to either side of the stage, but not off stage.
As a video montage, costuming does not matter much. Each speaker should be given his or her own “scene” in the video, except for the last line. This can either be a college effect, or have everyone standing as a group.
No props are necessary, but if using Biblical costuming, some could be carrying a pitcher of water, a basket of food, or other similar props.
**********
Speaker 1: I’m seeing this man everywhere, it seems. The one who claims to be the Messiah. I keep meaning to stop and listen to him when he’s speaking, but I’m just so busy.
Speaker 2: They say he fed five thousand men with five loaves and two fish yesterday. Wish I could have been there.
Speaker 3: Jesus and his disciples walked right past my house today. But I couldn’t say “hi.” I had too much to do.
Speaker 4: I hear he can make the blind see and the lame walk. I wish I could have seen that. I wonder if he has a cure for busyness?
Speaker 5: He road into Jerusalem on a… donkey? Isn’t he supposed to be the one who saves us all? I would think he would have come in a bit more… majestically. Maybe if I had been able to be there and see it with my own eyes, I’d have a different opinion.
Speaker 6: He overturned the tables in the temple, and chased everyone out with a whip! He said they were desecrating the temple. And I thought he was so peaceful. But boy, wouldn’t that have been a sight to see?
Speaker 7: I’ve heard the Jewish leaders are mad at him, and saying he’s speaking blasphemy. I wonder what he’s saying that could be so provocative, when his actions are so… kind? If only I could hear him for myself. Then I could make my own decision.
Speaker 8: There he is, hanging on the cross. I was always too busy to listen when he was alive, and now... It just seems so unfair. But then again, if he’s who he claims to be, wouldn’t he save himself? I actually have time to watch now, but I... I can’t.
[For a live skit, all actors begin to form a group center stage, after Speaker 1 says, “What?” so they can be in place for the last line.]
Speaker 1: What? he’s risen from the dead? The one who claimed to be the Messiah?
Speaker 5: Maybe he really is the one.
All: How could I have missed it?
