"Jan," purred Mom warningly, "you and your sister will be so uncomfortable, trying to balance Cokes and popcorn on four laps in the front seat of Larry's pickup. Not to mention I would like to meet this blind date of yours before you go anywhere."
My mouth opens and before I can shut it, I blurt out "It's okay Mom - they put a mattress in the back of the pickup so we could all be comfortable."
We girls stayed home and watched television with Mom.
Larry really loved Barb. Ardent, sometimes foolish - he would bring expensive gifts for her. Barb was still a Junior in high school, but what a gorgeous gal she was. All soft curly hair, the bluest expressive eyes and the reddest lips untouched by makeup. Larry was in love, and in the Navy.
Larry, fumbling his way to tell Mom how he felt about Barb, bravely, nervously expressed: "Louise, I have such a lust for your daughter."
Gram was visiting, sitting next to Mom, trying to keep a straight face, but failing, helplessly resorted to giggling.
Mom was neither sympathetic nor amused.
Larry and Barb and me - we would have been the perfect reality show for the Sixties.
