What A Privilege

What a privilege it is
To be chosen by one
Wooed by his words
A new life begun

A promise to trust
A walk down the aisle
Everything’s perfect
Everyone smiles

A journey began
With excitement and joy
A love that nothing
Could ever destroy

Together we walked
I was never alone
My needs were all met
What could go wrong?

But life was not perfect
Surely he was to blame
So I quit listening
When he called my name

Why did he let these
Things happen to me
Did he not care?
Could he not see?

My heart became bitter
I shut the door
I wasn’t interested
In him any more

Then one day I saw
Myself through his eyes
He loved me in spite
Of the sin and the lies

He brought me back in
To his loving arms
Safe and secure
From all of life’s harms

Though the valleys be deep
He’s taught me to see
To love others more
It’s not about me

My goal is to serve him
And always to seek
Trying to listen
Whenever he speaks

In return he gives me
A peace not explained
I know that I’ve lost
Much less than I’ve gained

So all things considered
I’m glad he enticed
What a privilege to be
A bride of the Christ
