Leaving everything behind
So don’t you cry for me or grieve
I’m going to Him whom I believe’—
Smiled and put her hand in mine.
Her faith inspired me to compose
This memorial in rhyme;
Life is a journey I propose;
What matters most is where one goes
At the cul de sac of time.
Each traveller has bags galore,
Stooped beneath their hefty weight
Each step he takes he gathers more;
He doesn’t know what most are for,
Just accumulated freight.
She left her burdens at the cross
And from then on travelled light
Her baggage left behind was dross
She never counted it as loss
But exchanged for pure delight.
Not like the trips the earth-bound make
Long lost travellers in time—
So many things they need to take,
Un-needed things they can’t forsake
Must one day be left behind.
And so she leaves with smiling face,
All her travelling is o’er;
She’s kept the faith, she’s run the race
I know she’s reached that longed for place
Through Heaven’s open door.
