There is just a bit of steam upon the glass
That divides my feeble faith from perfect sight.
Trifling, that skiff of mist veiling heaven's light,
Yet across its meager chasm, I cannot pass.
Still, when trials come, I press my longing face
To the glass and through the hazy mist I strain
To glimpse that vast land where love has total reign.
I, while gazing, all my fears with hope replace.
Sorrow's waters, too, are gently tempered by
Scenes from the realm just beyond the misty glass.
For in that land of pure light, all tears now past,
The King of love, every eye will sweetly dry.
One day soon, God's hand will wipe my window clean.
Then I'll no more need to bolster shaky hope,
Nor yearn for a greater faith with which to cope
For faith and hope disappear where all is seen.
And in that home where love is the only theme -
My hope will be an awe-filled reality.
There I'll spend a joyous, long eternity,
And no longer be bound by a bit of steam.
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
(1 Corinthians 13:8-13 KJV)
