Interviewer: I'd like to thank you for granting me the privilege of a once-in-a-lifetime interview.
King: Certainly.
Interviewer: As you know, the predominant question is “When are you returning?” You've been away for a while, and the people of the earth are getting very . . . well, agitated, shall we say. There's never been a greater time of hatred and riots.
King: Ah, yes! The million-dollar question. As far as the people of the earth, don't you think they're rather like a pot of stew?
Interviewer: Excuse me, Your Majesty?
King: The people on the earth. A good way to think of them is as a giant pot of stew. You have your potatoes, your carrots, your meat, and your seasonings, your salt, etc, etc.
Interviewer: Well, I don't think I've every thought of it like that before. Sort of like a pot roast or a pig roast, we're getting cooked?
King: No, no, no! I didn't say “pig”. I don't like pigs.
Interviewer: Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean pig roast. I meant pot roast, just pot roast.
King: I'm very sensitive to pigs. It's not my favorite food. I'm really not sure why we made them in the first place. There's still a little disagreement in the office over that one.
Interviewer: Anyway, so you mean we're getting cooked? Is it that global warming thing?
King: No, no, no. What I'm saying is you need to learn to love one another. For example, green peppers and onions. Now I believe – correct me if I'm wrong – you do not like green peppers and onions.
Interviewer: That's true. In fact, I never put them in my stew. How did you know that?
King: It's my job. However, back to the stew. The stew would not taste the same without green peppers and onions. It wouldn't be as good. Can you imagine leaving the salt out?
Interviewer: Well, it is true that I like the flavor of those vegetables, I just don't care for the bite.
King: Exactly! If everyone picked out everything they didn't like, there would be no stew. Then where would we be?
Interviewer: Well . . .
King: You were made for your lives to be joined together, to touch one another. When people look beyond their own tastes and differences, the stew becomes perfectly seasoned with love and compassion.
Interviewer: Uh, yes, that's all very nice, but let me ask you this: When is the stew . . . done?
King: Do you mean when am I returning?
Interviewer: Yes.
King: In its appointed time.
Interviewer: I knew you were going to say that. Well, I thank you very much for this interview. It has been an honor and a privilege. I shall make sure that these words are spread far and wide.
King (stands to leave, bends down and whispers in Interviewer's ear): Do you really want to know when I'm returning?
Interviewer (eyes light up): Yes!
King: I never left.
