Here is a question. Is it well with you - or have you been unduly influenced by other voices? Remember back. It may have been the voice of a mean girl, or a bully, or a jealous sibling, or a tyrannical parent, or a teacher who just seemed to "have it in" for you, even as you tried so hard to please - and there my friend, is part of the problem. You see, the devil wants you to gather your self-worth from people, through much people-pleasing. Now if you carry this strategy into your Christianity, you will find there is no faster way to squelch your faith, than to believe you have to win it from somebody else. Friend, if you are looking for a bumpy ride on the King's Highway, then live your life as an insecure, double-minded Christian, needy of other people's approval. Just be sure of this: God has provided a better way.
Here is the believer's remedy: Lay hold of your position in Christ, and rest in God's Almighty grace! Jesus said, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me , hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life," (John 5:24 KJV). Whether you battle negative voices from your past or hear them in your present, take a cue from the Savior. Think of all he had to endure. His legitimacy, his authority, and even his Son-ship were constantly being called into question by people who didn't believe in who He was. It never altered His opinion about himself, or caused him to doubt His Heavenly Father.
Now Jesus wants you to have the same Rock solid faith in Him that he possessed in His Father. Protect your faith by not allowing anything to knock you off the solid ground of the gospel, so you can say with the apostle, "For I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day," (II Timothy 1:12b KJV). Let this be your defining moment.
