Our dialogaters could translate their language and decipher their codes. We were slowly gaining an understanding of them and their practices. Regis waved, and nanopids materialised in our hands.
“Vastillas, your assignment is to observe and make notes on the human that is assigned to you. Point your nanopid to see their likeness and the information we have on them.”
The air lit up with holographic images. My subject was a fifty-year-old female named Dana. Her height was average for females and her body mass slightly above average.
“Your task is to observe your human's faith habits. First we will study the Christians' faith, and later the other faiths. You are to remain invisible at all times, and to make no verbal, tactile or mind contact with your subject. You must not attempt in any way to influence them. Your role is as a passive observer.
Make notes with your thinkator, only noting what is relevant to their faith. Make no sound or perceptible movements. Any questions?” There were none. As usual, Regis had done a perfect job of explaining things.
“Begin immediately. You have three days. The data will be collated and analysed as it comes in. We should have detailed results in four days.”
7.00 am Dana speaks to her deity. “Dear Lord. This is going to be a really hectic day. Please help me cope.”
8.30 am Dana is driving her car. Another car swerves into her lane, narrowly missing her car. “Oh my God!” she shrieks.
11.00 am Dana walks towards a meeting with her boss. “Please help me not to say the wrong thing. Please let him be in a good mood.”
No further faith behaviour until 11.00 pm.
11.00 pm Dana opens her faith book, a Bible, and reads silently. (Page 645, heading 'Proverbs', phrase number 3:1-6.) She makes notes in a notebook: I want to trust with all my heart and not follow my own ideas. I want to acknowledge you, Lord, in everything I do. Please make my path go the right way. Appears to be a written way of addressing her deity.
8.00 am Speaks to her deity: “Dear Father, (First time time deity referred to as Father). Please keep Sandra safe as she drives to Adelaide. And help Dan as he works out his relationship with Jen. Help me to give wise advice to him, if he asks me. And thank you for Saturdays! Amen.”
10.30 am A sudden cry to her god: “Oh God, I forgot that I'm having coffee with Meredith this morning! I'd better get a move on.” She drives off in her car.
10.45 am Meets her friend at a café. They talk about their families. Just before leaving, Dana tells Meredith that she will pray for her family. No prayer at this stage.
12.00 Dana uses an electronic device to play songs about her god. Songs express love for Jesus and the Father. Dana sings along with some parts.
11.00 pm As previous night – reads Bible book, writes prayer notes. Now sits as if listening, then writes some more: Thank you for your reassurance that you are in control of everything, Lord. Thanks for reminding me that I am more precious than a sparrow, and that you even know how many hairs are on my head. Seems to believe that her deity is communicating with her. There has been no audible communication. Appears to believe that the deity is concerned for her as an individual.
8.00 am Turns radio device on and listens to faith music as she eats. No prayer.
9.50 am Drives her car to faith building called church. She enters and sits next to other humans. They sing some faith songs. Dana sings with enthusiasm. A male, at the front, prays while Dana listens with her eyes closed and head bent down. The male speaks about the deity and reads from the faith book. Dana listens intently and at one stage appears to have tears in her eyes.
10.00 pm Prays for Sandra and Dan. Also for Meredith. Confirms that she trusts her god with everything.
