My husband saw in his rear sight
Camper keys atop the camper--but
Whose hands held them there just right
God graced us with an angel
For how else could we explain
That over bumps, ‘round several curves
Those keys weren’t lost, but remained
This trip was somewhat special
For our grandson came along
While traveling through Pagosa Springs
Our Jeep began acting very wrong
It would die, start, then die again
Causing my husband much concern
A gas station man referred us to help
But arriving--“we’re too busy”--we learned
Another referral was given
On this now late Friday afternoon
We had more starting, dying and cars honking
Blood pressure rising, we needed help soon
Each of us paused and took a breath
Then asked God to get us there
Keith turned the key, we were on our way
No more stalling--God heard our prayer
We feared the fix would be costly
Much more than we might afford
But the problem was just old sparkplugs
That for too long had been ignored
Some were even broken in half
Causing the mechanic to scratch his head
“Don’t know how you made it here
‘Cause the life in these plugs was dead”
No doubt our faith grew stronger
‘Tween the camper keys and this repair
We said our thanks to God and man
As His love embraced us there
Now Silverton’s peaks and mountains
Lured us to a ghost of a mining town
We explored, engaged our imaginations
Then defied the narrow, winding descent to town
Getting nearer to the bottom
Where the road yawned and relaxed
First a popping, then a thumping
Yep, that’s right--we had a flat
My husband and teenage grandson
Fit the spare onto the Jeep
We praised God for His safety
Getting us down that road so steep
And though this vacation’s over
Its blessings will never dim
Because His presence is with us
Daily drawing us closer to Him
He is our great Provider
Listening intently when we speak
His grace is unmerited, yet spills
Into our minutes, days and weeks
So next time you’re road-tripping
Packing your bags and i-tune songs
Pray that God will watch over you
Then invite Him to go along
He’s the best ever passenger
And His friendship is true blue
The more you choose to be with Him
The more His love will brighten you
