Cell phones send “help-needed” calls
Two victims bleed, their fears grow numb,
too long until assistance comes
Wreckage spilled o’er asphalt lanes,
injured folks cry out with pain
Sirens shriek, finally help arrives
to aid the hurting to survive
A linear rainbow beautifies
mostly blue and sunny skies
Could it be God’s affirmation
two angels reached their destination
Tragedy nudged someone to speak
a prayer for those growing weak
But empty souls lacking compassion
began to groan in selfish fashion
Annoyed at their own delays
their darkened hearts were on display
A cardboard sign states her case:
alone, hungry--she knows disgrace,
Will help come with an extended hand
to prompt a smile--who will understand
that to walk a mile in someone’s shoes
gives clarity from another’s view,
Blind eyes, deaf ears or a sideways glance
from those who never dare to chance
to get involved, no--they might get hurt
in streets where gangs and death still flirt
Crimes increase with embedded hate
but love changes lives--it mediates
At slight discomforts spoiled ones whine
instead of thanking The Divine
In humbleness let’s not forget
every need our Lord has met
Without concern, change won’t occur
and Jesus cries when hearts don’t stir
1 Corinthians 13:13 There are three things that will endure--faith, hope, and love--and the greatest of these is love. (NLT)
