TITLE: Not So Snugly | Previous Challenge Entry

Daniel: Sure. As you know, recently King Darius made a decree that citizens could pray only to him.
Eli: And you disagreed with this, Daniel. Why?
Daniel: Well, it's simple, really. God's Word clearly states that we are to pray only to Him.
Eli: Yes, but the decree was only for thirty days, correct? Couldn't you have just not prayed for thirty days?
Daniel: Well, sure. I could have. But I know that's not what God would have wanted me to do.
Eli: Then why didn't you just pray to yourself as you were walking along the road? No one would have known, and your God would have still heard your prayers.
Daniel: True. But to be honest, I really didn't think about it much. Prayer is such a part of my life. I just went on doing what I did every day.
Eli: You mean to tell me you never once thought about what would happen if you were caught?
Daniel: I thought about it. But it didn't change my actions. I knew I had to continue praying. So I did. If I died, I died.
Eli: So you were aware of the potential consequences and were willing to die for your God?
Daniel: Yes. My God is the One true God. The Creator God. How could I give anything less than my very life?
Eli: So they found you. What was going through your head?
Daniel: Nothing but prayers. I prayed that no matter what happened to me, God would be glorified.
Eli: So did you pray that God would spare your life?
Daniel: I'd be uh... lion... if I said I wasn't. But that wasn't the main focus. The main focus of my prayer was for God to be glorified, whether in my death or through miraculous intervention. That prayer was answered as soon as King Darius himself recognized God's power to save me.
Eli: So, when you hit the ground of the lion's den, what was your first reaction?
Daniel: You mean besides shock that I actually made it to the ground? I'm not sure, but I think it involved not moving a muscle while the shock wore off that I was still alive. After I checked for broken bones, I stood up and backed away slowly. Very slowly.
Eli: I don't know if you've seen these, but there are already pictures surfacing of you petting the lions.
Daniel: Creative editing. Do you really think I took the time to take pictures and update my Peoplebook page?
Eli: So you didn't get all snugly with the lions, then?
Daniel: Eli, while I fully believed that God had chosen to save me, I also have common sense. I stayed in my corner, they stayed in their corner. It worked out splendidly.
Eli: So the lions didn’t give you any trouble at all?
Daniel: Oh, they eyed me suspiciously a time or two. And a couple of them looked like they were smacking their lips.... Do lions have lips? Anyway, I'm pretty sure they were trying to decide whether I was some odd looking lion, a large piece of meat, or something else entirely.
Eli: Well. That's an.... interesting thought. I guess they chose something besides the option two?
Daniel: It would appear so. Yes.
Eli: So as they were eying you suspiciously, you...
Daniel: Prayed. Like I've never prayed before.
Eli: Is that your answer to everything?
Daniel: Yes, actually. And hey, it worked, didn't it?
Eli: What was your reaction when King Darius returned the next morning?
Daniel: I was ecstatic. Not only would King Darius believe, but many other who heard the story would believe also.
Eli: And those who accused you?
Daniel: I regret they didn't know the Lord.
Eli: But it makes your story all the more incredible. I mean, they didn't even make it to the ground before the lions slaughtered them.
Daniel: Well, they were extra hungry....
