Hi, Linda. I'm glad it's lunch time. I thought that lunch bell would never ring today.
I know what you mean. Some mornings are just so long. Let’s sit over here. Hey, what are you reading?
”Finding the Kaleidoscope”
I haven’t heard of that. What’s it about?
I can’t believe you haven’t heard of it. It was on Barbara’s Book List last week.
Oh, that Barbara.
Yes, that Barbara. Anyway: she has a book club on her show and she tells people which books are good to read.
And is it?
Is it what?
Is the book good?
Well… it has to be, if Barbara recommends it. I always read Barbara’s books; I’m a loyal Barbara Backer.
But do you like the book?
It’s OK, I guess.
What’s it about?
It’s about these three women who went to high school together and how they all find out who they are.
How do they find out who they are? And why do they have to find out?
Well, everyone in Barbara’s books is always trying to find out who they are. I’m about a third of my way through the book and so far they’ve just begun college.
Do they know who they are yet?
Not yet. It’s a process. They talk a lot and make mistakes and cry and are always there for each other. They’ve figured some of it out but they’ll have to grow up some more, I guess.
Are you enjoying the book?
Well, it’s something to occupy my mind, I guess. I see you have a book, too. What are you reading?
It’s the story of a missionary in China and it tells the story of her life.
Is it interesting?
It really is. She knew she was going to be a missionary even when she was in high school. So she looked for people in her church and community to teach her the things she would need to know and then she went to China. Everything she’d learned as a teenager came in handy, so far, in China.
Sounds like she didn’t need to find herself.
No – she let the Lord show her who He’d created her to be.
That does sound interesting.
Do you want to borrow the book? I don’t mind. Or…I have some more missionary stories at my apartment. Do you want to borrow one of those?
Well, not really. After all, I’ve got six other Barbara books I haven’t read yet. Maybe I’ll read one of yours, after that.
Well, let me know if you change your mind. Maybe you’d enjoy reading a book where someone doesn’t have to find themselves.
That would certainly be different. Well, I’m off to find out more about my ladies’ college years.
And I’m off to read about how the missionary smuggled Bibles across the Chinese border.
Smuggling Bibles? Well, maybe I would like to borrow that book.
Here; I’ll give it to you now. I can finish it when you’re through.
Thanks; I really appreciate it.
No problem…enjoy it. Maybe you’ll find even yourself.
Maybe I will.
I’ll pray you do.
