I found the second stanza regarding "carefree days" to be the hardest part of growing up. And, you've summarized it so well. It makes me wonder at youth, when they read this, will the/can they truly understand until they have walked just a little further down life's path. This kind of poem makes me stop and wonder about such things.
You carried through the idea of your title well throughout your thought-provoking poem. My favorite line was: Every choice tht's made will linger over time.
Oh yes, how glorious the future of Adulthood looks when we are still "getting there." But it often arrives sooner than we would like it to. It happened to me when I lost my mother at age 19 and had to take on the job of being an adult. It wasn't fun! Great poem, Free To Be! just what each child envisions before the time arrives...Helen
Captures a lot of emotion in this piece, but the second verse with the carefree days, those are the ones I now wish I had. Great job in capturing these feelings!
