Jesus called Himself “the Living Water” and when He lives within our hearts He hydrates our souls with the essence of His life-giving force. Yet, after a tragedy in my life, I felt as though my knowledge of His presence had hardened like ice; despite my sure and constant conviction that He lives within me. I continued to believe, despite my inability to feel His closeness or His presence. I refused to turn away from believing He was there – somewhere within that winter; that He resided in the frozen water of my emotions.
This morning, I began to sense His presence again. Just as a blush of buds peek shyly from their casements and the sharp, green blades of grass shoot joyfully up from the dark barren ground, my soul has again begun to rejoice in His Name. Like the soft sweetness of Spring-scented air, He stirs soft praises within my heart. My heart hears His Voice as surely as the first robin’s song and senses His Touch: as tender as a zephyr of April wind.
I knew He was always there, in the winter of my soul. I was convinced He still lived within my heart. Water remains water even when it is frozen; the Living Water remained alive and vibrant even when my grief overwhelmed me and froze my knowledge of that Water into ice and hardened my heart’s ability to connect with my Savior.
Now, because of God’s never-ending Grace, I am again enabled to reach out to Him. He has melted my heart just as Spring melts the ice and snow of winter. New Life is nascent within me; Hope is growing like a fragile young plant. I look within my soul and recognize the blossoming of joy and the resurgence of love for my Lord.
Thank You, Jesus for your infinite resources of mercy and Grace; for your patience and goodness of Love. I put on the garment of joy, just as a young girl dons her Easter finery. I gather my old self within me and launch it into the rekindled fire within my eyes.
Thank You, for this Springtime in my soul. To God be the Glory!
“For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone.” (Song of Solomon 2:11)
