“…the joy of the Lord is our strength.” Nehemiah 8:10 (NASB)
But from where does my joy draw near? How does one take water from a dry well? Can a dead man dance? How is it that my Lord should answer me so? I cry for strength, for hope. And you reply ‘joy’.
“Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and sustain me with a willing spirit.” Psalms 51:12 (NASB)
In my weakness my wisdom fails me. My spirit has forgotten its source and I am brought low before you. Restore the joy within me! Forgive the doubting mind of your servant-child. For I am still unsure of my strength, though joy abound. How is it that joy gives me strength? How do I soar above my enemies?
“Yet those who wait for the LORD will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.” Isaiah 40:31 (NASB)
The eagle is pummeled by the crows. They bite and peck, they screech and they threaten. Yet he circles gracefully, upward, upward, always upward. The enemy flies in unison with the eagle, still hungry for the kill. With joy and exultation, the eagle continues its wondrous flight toward the creator, toward the center of its strength. The majestic bird makes one more loop, quietly, serenely, without anxiety. As it reaches the high places and shouts with victory, the enemy loses control. The crows cannot fly in the highest heights and they plummet to the ground, victims of a gravity that does not bind the eagle.
Ah, I see now. Please find amusement in thy humble servant’s ignorance. I blush as I realize the beauty and simplicity of your Word.
Your salvation is my joy.
Your joy is my strength.
Your strength gives me flight.
