"Hello, gents." Diamond smiled a crystalline smile as he started to point out several of the unconscious hoods to the officers.
"From left to right we have the head of the Maroni family, his son-in-law, their bodyguards..." He paused a moment, putting his palm to his chin as if pondering what to say next. "They will need medical attention. I think I might have broken a couple of fingers taking their guns away from them. On the other side of the table, you have the Yu drug cartel, trying to move into the local drug trade. Can you believe their bodyguards are the women on that side of the table?" He indicated the Asian women in dark jumpsuits. They didn't try to shoot me, but I guess they figured that martial arts would take me down. I heard one of their toes snap when she kung fu kicked me. My knocking them out was a mercy so they wouldn't be feeling the pain of their injuries."
The senior officer responded with a quizzical frown and asked, "Why did you need to do that? Their bullets cant hurt you, after all."
Diamonds reply was simple. "I didn't want anyone else to get by a stray ricochet. I'm bulletproof, but these other folks aren't."
The junior partner drawled, "Its a good thang we have you around, Diamond. Thanks to you, our jobs are so much easier."
At that the hero chuckled, "You're welcome, but you had better get used to doing some work then."
"Why?" asked one of the officers.
Diamond paused, his smile growing wider. I'm getting married in a couple of weeks, then off to San Juan for our honeymoon."
"One of your Light Force friends?"
Diamond smiled back at them, as they stood from putting cuffs on the head honchos, and responded, "Yep."
"Which one?" asked the younger man. "The blonde?"
Knowing that Coldfire was dating the team leader, Megawatt, he responded, "No, I've never dated her."
The older officer nodded and asked, "The redhead, or maybe the brunette in the purple costume?"
"Nope."
"The dark haired mermaid gal?" the older officer inquired.
The younger officer nudged his partner. "Silly old man, mermaids have tails. Not legs like she does." He punctuated his comment with a smirk that he hoped the hero didn't notice.
Diamond nodded at the younger officer, ignoring his leering over his fiancee. "You tell 'em, brother!"
"Brother?" the policeman responded. "I only gots sisters."
Diamond responded patiently, "We're all brothers in stopping crime."
The older man answered him with a grin and outstretched hand. You're right, young man. And on behalf of the entire police force, I want to offer you congratulations on your marriage to be."
Diamond thanked the officer as he gently shook the other mans hand, being careful not to crush it with his strength.
As the two officers headed out to assist the backup putting the assorted criminals in squad cars, they were debating how to explain to the lieutenant in charge of the shift. The older man was of the opinion that it was nobody's business if one of their local superheroes wants to marry another one.
Diamond, in his human form, watched them try to persuade one another, and decided, since he didn't tell them exactly when he and Rebecca were getting married, that he was thankful it didn't matter.
