But she didn’t.
She advised him on ways to cope and guided him through several disciplines to keep it under control. He altered his behavior and thought he had the issue licked. He stood before the church and told how he had overcome that problem. Life went on. He graduated from college. Acquired a job, ironically at a church. Got married. Had children.
But his compulsion had never really left. It had lurked in the depths of his being. He knew he was losing his restraint. But he would be careful, oh so careful.
And then he got caught.
He was so bewildered. How had he slipped up that way? What was going to happen now?
Arrested. Jail. His face in the newspapers and on television. Social media broadcasts on Facebook and Twitter.
It was no longer a secret.
That’s when the ripples began. His actions affected so many. His wonderful parents. His beloved wife. His precious children. He could no longer be around them unsupervised. But he loved them so. The consequences of what he had done proliferated throughout his world.
The ripples just kept on spreading.
His extended family now reacted with numbness and then were devastated. The people he had been so close to at work now felt the jolt of reality as the truth began to register. A court date was set. Where was it all headed? He knew it wasn’t a good place.
And it was too late to fix it
