Topic: YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW (05/02/19)
The Bible is God's book of instructions to lead and guide us through life and to shape us in His own image and likeness as recorded in (Genesis 1: 26.)

Overtime we have found there are many scriptures and ideologies that quotes has been established from or used in reference too from the bible. I would like to address a few of these quotes and elaborate on them.

Before I start I would like bring to recall how Lucifer came to tempt Adam and Eve in (Genesis 3) with the words of God. He deceived them by omitting words, twisting and changing words.

Since the beginning of time society has continued this practice. In doing this it changes God's word completely and weakens it. That's what we find in a few of these quotes that I'm going to address today.

First, I would like to look at how we often quote “ this too shall pass.” That phrase is used by many people in the church today. Nowhere is that quote found nor established in the word of God. This quote firmly establishes a ho hum mind and heart set, which is against what the Bible teaches.

Quote number two states “ money is the root of all evil.” This puts a sour taste in a person's mouth and mind when in fact (1 Timothy 6:10) declares “for the LOVE of money is the root of all evil.” Money itself is not the root of all evil.

I am sure you have heard “what goes around comes around.” This quote puts a whole different meaning to the actual word of God. (Ecc 1:9) records how history repeats itself.

How about “God works in mysterious ways.” This is quoted more times than not but religious people. This quote is No where in the Bible, and should not be taught that it is.

There again we've taken biblical scripture reduced it down to a quote that has a tendency to make one feel good about themselves. It also allows one to think they have legal right to judge others.

Last but far from least we hear the following quote. “You will reap what you sow.” Society has a tendency to connect the quote with the way we treat others, when if fact, that is far from biblical truth. Sowing and reaping is used in the Bible in conjunction with sowing the word not only in your own life, but the life of others, and in conjunction with tithing, offerings and alms. I like to say (Matthew 25) is the totality of sowing and reaping throughout one's life, and into the life of others.

In closing I would like to encourage all when you read the Bible to read every written word. Omit nothing. Change nothing and twist nothing. When we quote the Bible we need to quote every word exactly as it is written. One or two words can change the whole concept of the word of God.

The last chapter of Revelations has warnings of adding to God's word or taking away from it. It is impossible to receive the full blessings of God when we make choices to change, twist or omit God's word.

(Matthew 4:4) declares man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.
(Isaiah 55:11) says so shall my word that goeth forth out of my mouth, should not return to me void but shall accomplish that which I please and prosper in the places sent. These two passages reveal the importance of quoting God's word accurately.

When we sow the word of God into our life and in the life of others it will determine what we reap and sow. The Bible compares it to planting a crop in a field and expecting a harvest. Are you sowing God's word of love, sharing the plan of salvation and life change? If so, you have a mighty harvest to reap. Or are you quoting phrases taken out of context from the society we live in?

I feel like this should be given as a speech. You've covered a lot of topics and issues. It would be better to stick to one or two relevant issues to qualify your take on the topic. It is amazing how many cliche's have been attributed to the Bible!

This is the second Bible lesson/teaching I have read on the topic. I have to admit, I did struggle through the first paragraphs, wondering where this was going. I DO like how you brought attention to a host of inaccuracies in various teachings regarding Scripture. However, I wish more time would have been spent on the Reaping/Sowing aspect.

Strictly my personal opinion. Great writing. Thanks for listening.

This is an interesting sermon. You make some excellent points. As an editor, I can't tell you how many times I've seen writers use only part of a verse or not look at verses before or after in order to make a specific point. One thing I'd suggest you do is tighten your writing some. There's no need to tell the reader what you intend to do next. Also read (or even better have someone else) read your piece aloud. If there are stumbles, pauses, or rereading, you may want to tweak some of the lines a bit. For example, I might suggest an edit like this: Throughout time, people have used parts of Scriptures to make a specific point. Even in the very beginning, Lucifer tempted Adam and Eve by twisting, omitting or even changing God's words. People have continued to use this practice to further their personal agendas. For example, one verse that is often misquoted is...
That is just a quick example to show you what I mean about tightening your writing. People are fickle and with another article or story ready with a simple click of the button, it's vital to grab the reader's attention right away in a succinct manner. You've a wonderful foundation here. You make some outstanding points too. This would be a great sermon, study, or lecture with just a little tweaking. I can feel your passion to spread the Word of God and you have a great grasp of the Bible. Good job.

Lots to chew on here. One thing I love to do is go to the original language and put the words in context to the culture they are speaking to. So many layers. God's word is truly rich and deserves to be fully viewed. Blessings
