The sudden realization smacked me upside the head: I am one of “those” people.
That understanding occurred after a recent interaction with a church friend. She referred to aspects of her job serving in the church body as an exercise in “iron sharpening iron.”
I pondered what she meant in her use of that proverb; could it be referring to her skillful use of interacting with all types of people?
There are folks who are delightful, and some are difficult. Many are happy to do any job asked of them, and others are difficult to please. Some are peacemakers, whereas others are trouble-mongers. And then there are those people with poor social skills: individuals different from everyone else who just have a hard time interacting well with others.
I then wondered, where do I fit in? Am I someone who is more of a blessing than a bother? I would hope so, but then it hit me- I am one of those people. The social misfits. The ones who just never quite fit in with everyone else. Not realizing this, I often found myself wondering why I was left out of so much.
Looking back on my life, it now makes sense. I never was invited into cliques. I was usually chosen last for teams. I never married. And, sad to say, I’ve never been able to have true friends. For years, I’ve questioned God: “Why does no one want me?” But I don’t get the responses I wish to hear. What I do hear is “I am enough for you, dear one.”
Happy am I that God loves me!
I confess that I have sin in my life. I’m in a spiritual poverty of complete dependence on God for all of my cares in this life. I know that I don’t deserve to be chosen by Him, but I am! I may be poor or “humble” in spirit, but someday, I will see the Kingdom of Heaven.
You may not fit in the definition of society’s norms, but you can still be happy. You are a part of God’s kingdom of beloved people. When life becomes unbearably lonely, hold on to that reality that you are one of those people, the ones who are blessed in God’s sight!
Dear Father God, thank you for accepting and loving us as we are, even if we are misfits in this life. Amen.

I love the reminder that He is enough for us.
I do hope you're able to find good community and some true, close friends, whether that be online or "in the flesh."
This works well as a devotional but as Shann said, might need to be cut a bit.
I loved the positive ending.
