burning bright
lest it bruises
my soul overnight
Am I not annoyed
goodwill snubbed
kindness spurned
he backstabs
opposes my plans
makes me the scapegoat
or a whipping boy
Should I excuse my anger
and ignore the distress
to my inner being
Stay calm
keep the soul enemies away
lest they hold sway
anger causes ulcers
stress and high blood pressure
it ruins my health
and testimony
Isn’t it better to take control
and reign over myself
than to take over a city
Better to let patience
calm a quarrel
than to let anger
stir up conflicts
Harsh words birth anger
but gentle answer turns way wrath
A furious heart leads to its ruin
Learn from the Son of Man
the majesty of silence
though reviled
mocked, scorned
and spat at the face
He prayed, blessed
and forgave
for they didn’t know
what they were doing
he explained
Set a guard
over my mouth
keep watch
over my lip’s door
so I may ponder more before I respond
May I delight in understanding
find pleasure in wisdom
Indwell my heart with Your Word
Fill me with love, joy and peace
out of my inner being
will surely flow rivers
of living water
