Tents are setup with fruit, pastries, crackers, juice and water for a light breakfast, and as information stations where members go to purchase their t-shirts and tennis shoes and find out which team they are assigned to.
Each member is sporting their jeans and white t-shirt with “I’ve Got Good News!” written in red and matching red tennis shoes.
The chatter is interrupted by the sound of the PA system buzzing to life with Pastor Glen’s voice booming excitedly into the atmosphere, “Good morning Emmanuel. Thank you for the sacrifice of your time to come out this morning. Let’s get started so we can make the most of our day.”
“We have visiting with us today, Pastor Ronald Garland, from Mountain View California. He’s going to explain the game plan for today and the attire you’ve been asked to purchase and wear. Give him a hand as he comes.”
Pastor Garland cheerfully speaking, “Good morning disciples of Christ.” A chorus of good morning erupts from the crowd. Pastor Garland continuing, “I’ve started a new evangelistic movement to bridge the gap between churches across all of North, South, and Central America and internationally. I travel country to country, year in and year out to establish this movement that I’m about to explain to you, since you are now a part of that movement.”
“I’ll start with your attire. The red writing on your t-shirt and your red shoes symbolize the Blood of Jesus. The white t-shirt symbolizes the fact that we are washed white as snow by the Blood of Jesus.
“The purpose of the attire is to unify the Body of Christ across the world, reminding us as individual local churches that while evangelizing it is important to share information to lead people to Christ. It’s not the time to pump up local church propaganda. Talking about how great our churches are and getting people to join won’t save lives, but talking about Christ and leading people to join Him will save lives. To talk about Christ is to lift Him, and He promises us, “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto Me.”
“So the red and white colors we wear is to serve as a reminder of what our real goal is in evangelism. The big movement is simply to get local churches to talk about Jesus.”
“Are there any questions before we head out?” Scanning the crowd, he spots a raised hand and acknowledges it, “Yes ma’am?”
Timidly a teenager asks, “Speaking of talking about Jesus. What if someone asks something I don’t know the answer to?”
Responding, Pastor Garland states candidly, “Be comforted in the fact that no one knows all the answers, and you are never alone.” A round of applause erupts throughout the crowd. Pastor Garland continues, “Trust the Holy Spirit Who lives inside you, to give you the right words to say. There will also be members of my staff in each group who will chime in in tight spots to guide the conversation.”
“As a part of the “I’ve Got Good News” movement, you wear your Gospel shoes as you travel throughout your communities to spread the Good News of the Gospel in obedience to God’s command to, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit...”
“Each of us is responsible to put on our Gospel shoes and trek the highways and byways to share God’s Gospel. So, let’s go evangelize.”
Two blocks from the church, a man comes out of a convenience store with a huge grin on his face. Seeing us coming onto the parking lot he stops and reads our t-shirts out loud, “I’ve got good news.” Laughing, he says, “I don’t know what good news y'all got, but it can’t be as good as my good news. I just bought a $10 scratch off lottery ticket and won $1000.”
Pastor Garland speaks ups quickly, “Sir, your money will only last a little while, but give me a moment of your time and I’ll share some Good News that will last forever.”
Walking over, the man says, “I ain't one to turn down some good news. What’cha know?”
