G=God, M=Me (representing all of us...)
G: Faithful Servant, I want you to __________ and __________.
M: Excuse me; I wasn't paying attention. What?
G: I want you to __________ and __________.
M: Sorry to be a pain, but I'm not sure I heard You correctly. One more time, please.
G: I want you to __________ and __________.
M: What! You can't be serious. You want me to __________, AND __________?
G: Yes.
M: Are You sure You're talking to the right person?
G: Yes.
M: What I mean is, how about asking So-and-So, instead? He is much better at this kind of thing, really. What do You say?
G: I want you to __________ and __________.
M: Are You really sure You want me to try that? I've never done that before.
G: I'm sure.
M: I...I really can't. I'm a failure in that area. You know that; that's why this request is really surprising. Me?
G: Yes.
M: Doing that?
G: Yes.
M: Why me? Things have finally straightened themselves out in my life, and I'm settled in, and I don't understand this timing, I really don't.
G: "Things have finally straightened themselves out?" No. I have been moving on your behalf. Make no mistake about that.
M: Sorry, Lord. I didn't mean to be disrespectful. I just really don't feel that I'm good enough for the task You want me to undertake. I don't understand Your thinking.
G: Let me worry about the thinking behind this. You'll understand it in time. Now, I want you to __________ and __________.
M: Oh, this is a TEST. I get it! Like when You asked Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, even though Isaac was the promised heir.
G: Not a test. And even then, Abraham WAS going to take the life of his precious son, Isaac, just because I asked him to. I had to stop him. Now, don't change the subject. I want you to __________ and __________. Will you?
M: Well, how about this: I'll do the first part, and then we'll just postpone the second part, okay? And I'll do a super great job on the first part! And You'll be so pleased with my performance for You on that first request that You'll just waive that last requirement, okay?
G: No deal. I want you to __________ and __________.
M: Okay. I'll begin to think about preparing for pursuing the research into the possibility of approaching the beginning stages of ...
G: First thing in the morning, I want you to __________ and __________. I have prepared the way.
M: Okay. I'll __________ and mumble, mumble, mumble...
G: I didn't quite catch that. Repeat yourself, clearly.
M: I would really prefer to do only the first part. I want to obey You, I really do, but just the IDEA of that last part scares me to death! Must I truly do both of these intimidating things to fully obey You?
G: Yes, you must do both.
M: May I say "No" and still be Your servant?
G: [Silence]
M: [Crying now] I can't, I can't, I can't.
G: You CAN, or I wouldn't have asked.
M: [Silence, except for sniffles]
G: I want you to __________ and __________, and I will guide you.
M: But...
G: I want you to __________ and __________, and I will guide you, and you will not fail--it is needed for My Kingdom.
M: First thing in the morning? __________ AND __________? For the Kingdom?
G: For the Kingdom.
M: [In a tiny, petulant voice] Yes, but I don't want to.
G: I know.
M: I really can do it?
G: Yes.
M: And You'll be with me, every step of the way?
G: Yes.
M: What if it gets too hard? Can I quit?
G: Jesus did not quit when it got too hard. Do you pattern your life after Him, or not?
M: Yes! Okay, then. I'll try.
G: You'll DO, not try.
M: Yes, Lord, I WILL __________ AND __________.
G: Good. And I will bless your efforts. Sleep now, for tomorrow is the start of your new life.
M: [sleepily] ...new life, doing __________ and __________. Me! Thank You, Lord, for asking me.
G: And thank you, Child, for your eventual obedience.
