As a seven year old boy, with his hands in the soil, did he remember forming the first human being? At twelve, in the temple, did he recall the smell of incense wafting up to heaven from Solomon’s temple as he stood beside his Father’s throne? As he broke bread and sipped wine with friends, did the scent of fresh bread and the fragrance of wine evoke memories of his first communion, with his ancient grandfather, 2000 years earlier?
As he stood in the dessert, tempted by Satan, did he reminisce of his enemy cast to the earth, falling through space like lightening? As he prayed in the garden, with his eyes to the night sky, pleading for another way, did he remember calling every star into existence by name?
As he hung on a cross, built of wood from a tree he created, shedding his blood for people who hated him, begging forgiveness due to their ignorance and drenched in his Father’s anger, did he recall every name he had written in the Book of Life?
As he stepped from the tomb, with healed skin and scarred hands, did his first breath of fresh air, the fragrance of roses and lilies, remind him of when he walked in the Garden of Eden in the cool of the evening?
Could one tell their life story, just through the scents and fragrances so often taken for granted, if they stopped and took the time to breathe in the aroma of life?
